    Value of HO Trains

Hi Model RR fans, Happy New Year! My brother has HO scale trains and would like to know the value if any. I have no idea what they are but they are old since they've been boxed for about 20 years! We don't live close or I would take a look. What websites do you recommend where he can...

    MRC 2500 DC TRANSFORMER PROBLEM

One thing that routinely fails in old electronics are the capacitors. Electrolytic capacitors are the worst, as most are only rated for around 2,000 hours. However, depending on the circuit design, you can get 10,000 hours or more on these capacitors. It comes down to things like ripple current...

    Weighting (NMRA standards)

I like to follow the NMRA Weight Recommendation. I like it so much, I created a couple of tools to make it easier to get the desired weight. First is a chart of HO Scale weight based on Prototype length in one (1) foot increments. I thought that might be better than using HO scale inches, which...

It's a shame this lovely locomotive can't go as fast as it looks running on the poor trackage in our country!

    Airbrush Reccomendatations

I agree with Smudge617, a good compressor makes a big difference. I have a reasonably sized compressor in the garage and ran air hose to my basement. I installed a regulator and shut-off valve next to my spray booth, so I can control the air locally. It's absolutely quiet where I'm painting and...

    What is this tool?

I believe it's called a Miter Shear and it is for angular cutting of soft wood (pine) molding. It should work well for cutting cork roadbed, but I wouldn't try it on rail. If you cut roadbed on an angle it won't show as well as a straight cut might. Paul

    A Beginner's Journey Pt 2

Jacob, If you use Vallejo paint and a decent airbrush you should be able to lay down thin layers of primer and paint. Surface preparation: Before you start painting, make sure the surface is clean and dry. Applying a primer can improve the adhesion of the paint and highlight the fine details...

Excellent information Canalligator. I would like to add: We all know that Allen Wrenches, Socket wrenches, etc... come in sizes. But, did you know Philips screw drivers also come in sizes? The #0000 Phillips head screwdriver has a tip measuring 1 mm. The #000 Phillips head screwdriver has a...

Acetone will make the MEK evaporate slightly faster. MEK is both less soluble and less volatile than acetone. Acetone is typically a better solvent than MEK, because it dissolves a wider range of compounds.
