I attended the show on the 20th as well (Pittsburgh Expo Mart).
It was grand with all the manufacturer's vendor tables, the layouts, and I found some rolling stock I had been searching for as well.

Ah, I stand corrected. That was simply never an issue for me :D

And, of course, because of the above reasons, the manufacturers no longer produce items with the old coupler.
So the knuckle couplers maintain all the "pros" minus the "cons."
