What trains did you run today?

I have just finished installing grade crossings in six places. After thoroughly cleaning the area and track at these crossings, I ran a test train. They all worked fine, but I did find some dirty track/dead spots elsewhere on the trackage. For a test train, I use a four axle locomotive with no...

What trains did you run today?

I didn’t run any, but I rode Amtrak 338 and I’m waiting to board 48.

    What's happening on your layout?

It’s plaster time. I’ve put in styrofoam and newspaper base shapes, and I’m now laying up plaster cloth for rough shaping. I have also made a bunch of rock castings, those will be added next. Then will come roads and foundations for major structures. After that comes ground goop.

Accurate late 1940s to early 50s road markings

In the 50s in upstate New York, only white paint, no fog lines, only four patterns in center (dashed, solid, dashed one side, double solid). Crosswalks only in towns and cities. No words written on pavement. Parking lots, besides having no islands, had minimal striping. Related: traffic...

    How much time….?

An hour or two every evening, usually. With the good weather, I spend some time on the yardwork and even more time cycling.

Could somebody post a video of how to install couplers on my tender?

You would probably find it very helpful to get some hands-on help. You might want to get involved with a local club or the NMRA.

What are you buying this Month?

I’m buying a second booster for my DCC system. I found out the hard way that having a number old tech (blue box) locomotives that draw a lot of current is overloading one of my power districts. Setting the trip current higher on that power district’s breaker will work for now, but I wanna make...

What are you buying this Month?

Added another set of aggregate hoppers. There is room for two at a time at the unloading facility. Bought the Walthers Amtrak Station, which is based on the old Rochester NY station… which is what I happen to be modeling! Also bought the building and conveyors kit, to kitbash into my salt mine.

    Buses

I am, but most of those bottles are root beers and ginger ales. The Crown Royal bottle is old enough to have a tax stamp on it, 1961.

    Buses

I got my New Look from Rapido. Here’s the current collection. The HO buses will someday occupy the bus division of my train & transport museum layout. Not shown are the other Volvo 9700 and an unpainted Clipper kit that I will be painting in 1960s Lockport Bus Lines livery.

future planning, adding power to Digitrax DCS152

I did a major downsizing about 5 yrs ago. I eliminated some hobbies, and downsized others. A lot of art supplies went to grandkids, bike parts to our bike giveaway organization, car tools, magazine collections, etc. Took me months.

New video! Perfect 1 car industry!

Thanks for posting. I’ve gotten some good ideas on how to expand my operations, perhaps without even adding track.

    WeHonest Crossing Signals

OP, do you understand that a resistor is not a fixed quantity? That they come in different values? Do you also understand Ohm‘s law? It is a simple straightforward formula. Use the formula to compute what value of resistance you need. Then be aware, as other posters said, of what happens when...

    Placards

IMO, a frame with a placard but no ridge, would look a lot better than not having a placard at all.
