    Painting metal wheel faces

    I use the Vallejo paint with no issues. I don't thin the paint either. The rim faces are usually not that rusted from going through switches.

    I have a few Kato engines that I haven't run in awhile. Noticed the couplers needed weathering. So I did that and painted the wheels and rusted the trucks a bit more.These were renumbered to reflect CSX ownership.

    Basic weathering steps

    Do #6 before #5. You want to seal the powers. Wear rubber gloves before handling car after dull coat otherwise the oil on your fingers will leave a print and the powders will expose your print.

    I use Microset top put the decal on the car,it gives you time to get it in place. Solvaset I use after the Mset is dry, it snugges the decal down. I f you use the solvaset first it'll soften the decal and tear it. The Seaboard and the family lines decal were one large decal. Definitely needed...

    The couplers could use a rust color, other than that looks good. If you look at videos you'll see that most have a brownish look on the tanks and trucks than rust. I usually layer rust, then a tan/mud and lastly grimy black. The 3 tones give a nice look when they a applied in light coats...
