Ok, got my train board done. It's 80" long and 46" wide on the widest end and 41 1/2" on the other end. It has 1 1/2" foam board(painted) on a hollow core door and extensions. The layout I kinda have in my head is a meandering freight, or as meandering as I can get N scale on this size board, going thru and over some rugged foothills. There is no apparent destination or starting point. I will have a 2% grade thru most of it. It will probably be a figure eight with maybe some bends here and there. I'm thinking of running two tracks side by side. Somewhere inside one of the loops I want some kind of mining operation with some ore cars being filled with a hopper. There will be some dirt roads winding around, cabins and things but no large communities. So that's where I'm at now. Comments and suggestions welcome. I am more into doing the scenery than running trains. Although I do want to see a fairly long freight going thru this spot of scenery.

Last year I built a layout for a friend w/his help on a 46" wide board w/79" long. he wanted 2 tracks to run 2 trains, but, the inside track was to tight to run any diesels over 4 axels. So, he only runs switchers on the inside track & runs 4 axel's on the outside track. We also put 2 #4 turnouts inbetween both tracks to go from 1 to the other. He had a few problems w/derailments at the beginning, but found some small kinks in the curves & I fixed those. We also added 4 inside sidings for a coal loader & some other businesses. To get the inside track to work I ran the outside track right out to the edge of the table.

Paul, I am pretty new at this stuff but it looks like you should be able to something real nice with that train board.:D:D:D

Hey Larry, I do not think you links to the Photobucket are working, or it could be me I suppose...

There's no link to Photobucket. You just have to go to Photobucket & search the name. HOscaleLarry70. I tried to get the link on my signature & never could.
