Yard Design

Need advice on yard design. I have two of them. the second is based on fig 2.9 from The model Railroaders Guide to Freight yards with the throat redesigned to allow for more trains. Also dropped the passengar train track down to one. The top one I pulled off another drawing I had seen.

Wanting opinions on which and why.

Almost have my drawings of the N scale proposed complete and should have one up this week.

I like the top one best, but I would connect the track just under the main back at the yard throat on the right. It will make the A/D track longer and eliminate some of the bottleneck you have now.
 
no 1 what is the inch per foot ratio, I am adding a yard to my layout as well and i was thinking around 4ft in length
