XtrkCAD

Hi everyone,

I downloaded XTrkCAD, so I would try to re-create my layout and compare them to see if there are any flaws, but when I came to run the application, it wouldn't run. When unzipped there was a file which had no extension, and actually was the largest file amongst the others, so I assumed that would be the application file. But so far I'm stuck there and still cannot launch the app.

Could someone be kind enough to guide me on how to launch or install this app.!!!!

Thanks

When I get to my home computer where XtrkCAD is installed, I'll be in a better position to try to answer your question.

In the meantime, try visiting the Yahoo "XtrkCAD" group at:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/XTrkCad/

You'll probably get some answers alot faster if you post your question there as well.

Mine did not come as a zip, but as an executable installation file. When installed the executable is xtrkcad.exe in the xtrkCAD4 directory.

Well I managed to download the 4.0.1, and got it to work, (the 3.1.4 I still cannot make it work). Anyway now I'm experimenting with the 4.0.1. even though I donno if its freeware or not and how long I'll be able to use it.

I believe that 4.0.1 is unlocked freeware - the company that originally maintained it turned it open source.

There are some VERY good tutorials on here
http://layoutparty.disisus.com/index.php
Not sure if you will need to join but type <tutorials> without the brackets into the search box They are very well written and once you get to see what they do you will pick it up quickly.
There is also an XTrkCad group here
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/XTrkCad/where you can ask questions,
and a manual here
http://templot.info/xtrkcad_help/
and another here
http://ca.geocities.com/sillub@rogers.com/sillubtech/files/xtrkcad-html/xtrkcad.html
I suggest you visit each in turn, and then add it to your "favorites"

It will take several hours to get through it, but once you do, the fun begins.

X1000 agreed! It'll take you a bit but don't give up on it - once I figured out how to select track, move/mod, parallel (I LOVE parellel), etc, it was well worth the time spent to learn it.

In a world of Microsoft maxiprofit, it is cool to see a great piece of software for cheap or better yet free.
