Hey guys, I'm new here. When I was in grade school, I had a huge obession with model railroading (and still do.) As a kid I had a nice little 4X8ft layout on a large wooden table my father built. When I started high school, my interests changed, and I wanted to use that space in my room for other purposes.

Since then, my entire collection has been in storage in our attic. Today, I pulled the old trains down to have a look at them.

I'd hate to see them go to waste, so I'm planning on putting them up for auction. The problem is, I don't know the manufacturer, value, or virtually anything about my collection anymore.

All of my stuff is still in running condition and my locos run well.

Firstly, I was wondering if any of you could identify this one:

It's a Mikado 2-8-2, and that's pretty much all I know about it.

Can anyone identify it?

I also have this, don't know much about it either. I think this one came with a train set I got when I was very young, by "lifelike?" Thus, I don't know that this one would be worth very much.

There is also this itty bitty thing:

Also, I have several buildings that are built, is there a practical way of dissolving the glue to take them apart for someone else?

Thanks!

The Santa Fe unit is a Life-Like F-7 and probably did come from a train set. The 2-8-2 is definitely an AHM model. I owned one in the early 70's. Looks like a poor quality repaint job as well. They weren't bad engines for their time and run pretty good. With some added detail parts (and a good paint job), they make a decent model.

I looked on the 2-8-2 and there are no words or logos except for a "made in slovenia" text on the underside, if that means anything.

There is the clincher! IHC or AHM marketed engines and other stuff made by Mehano in Eastern Europe. Slovenia, Yugoslavia and IIRC, Romania. Some of it runs quite well, but a little bare on details.

The Lifelike F7 is probably the single drive truck variety. They run ok if the wheels are clean, but some can be a little noisey.

The gandy dancer is probably the wost of the lot, light weight, poor contact means erratic operation at anything below warp 7.:D
