Work benches

Always interested in how people set up their work space. It gives me ideas how I can better manage my work area.

Are you a electric engineer by any chance
Well, I majored in EE during my first two years in college but then switched to "communications" which included radio, TV, and print journalism. I worked in technical publishing for many years. This included ham radio and computer magazines and eventually digital publications on the web.

I maintain a strong interest in electronics as evidenced by the well-used soldering station and multi-voltage power supply on my workbench!

Jeff, I am envious of the cleanliness of your work space... I am not allowing myself to take photos of my work space out of fear for the safety of my camera.

No way will the readers of this Forum see my messy work bench. It's a old desk with four drawers on the right and three drawers on the left with one drawer in the center. I open the center drawer and place a piece of paneling across the drawer for additional work space. I installed an electrical outlet on the left for my soldering irons and Dremel tool.

A desk lamp provides additional illumination.

Either I have too much junk or the desk is too small.

Trying again, I really messed up a few minutes ago. Ok, I did clean up somewhat before snapping these, TomO

Home base and the programming track and scenery experiment area above. Creating cattails in the dry creek bed soon to very wet

the workbench is 4.5’ long and 24” deep. The 18” portion of the top by the yellow power strip is 3’ long, the shelves in the doorway entrance are 30”.

I am right handed so most of tools are in these 2 rolling carts. Also, holds all the new styrene and foamcore panels. There is a lot more including rolling stock to be weathered

My most useful rolling cart. This is usually parked next to the left side of the work bench as I have a removable piece of plywood to give me more work space. The scenery cart is very useful

second rolling cart, being used as off bench storage for projects being worked on and does dit behind the skirting to be hidden

Part of the workbench are tools and things to make modeling easier.

1. the garbage hole, I just take the scale rule and scrape the bench top to the hole, anything but plastic or styrene can be dumped in there
2. the holder, a short 1x3x6” long. Holds 2 sharp pencils, usually the 4 paint brushes being used, the 2 paints being used for hand painting, a couple micro brushes and a couple long meat skewers
3. the medicine bottles, holds my most used files for styrene, 4 knifes, cotton swab sticks and paint mixing sticks empty in this picture and finally the dead blade holder
