Won a couple of Sunset Models GN class O-8 locomotives in the GNRHS auction!

These are a pair of nice looking models (if you ignore the cosmetic foam damage.)

The O-8 class has long been on my wish list and I got a screaming deal on them in the auction.







One has an open cab, and one has a closed cab.

Getting them running and painted will be a major project, and since I'm moving house and will be building a new layout they will get back-burnered for a while. But the new layout will have nice large curves for these to run on.

I'll probably have to re-motor them, and I'll definitely be adding DCC and sound. I'll have to strip the varnish and paint them too. I'll do at least one of them, if not both, the "Glacier Park" paint scheme.

That's kewl that you were able to get them. Always like that feeling when you've wanted something for a while, and then you open the box, and there they are. A couple of great projects to look forward to......

Staining is no big deal. You’re going to paint them anyway. As long as the brass isn’t pitted they’ll be fine. Green boiler or black?

As generic information. According to a book by C & D Wood, the GN's O-8 was the heaviest and most powerful (as in drawbar pull) of Mikado class locomotive in the USA. And my comment - and possibly in the world.

Still on my wish list. ESP the PFM 1983 version.
