Hello,
New to O Scale. I have an N Scale layout, but I wanted to mess around with some O Scale stuff.
I recently purchased a used Williams HD027-3 Chessie System locomotive. The instructions recommend a transformer rated at 90 watts or greater. The Lionel transformer I have is rated to 40 watts and the locomotive tries to move but it won't run.
Is it not running because my transformer is underpowered or is it because there something wrong with the locomotive.
Please let me know your thoughts.
Thank you.

Are you saying it's a little bit of both?

If it requires 90 watts and you only have 40, that is less than half. Get a higher wattage o-gauge transformer.

Thanks, I’ll do that.

Yeah, I have a 2-8-2 Polar Express, and the Polar Express sound tender. The 80 watt transformer I had would run the loco, or the sound but not both. Had to upgrade.

Thanks! I've ordered a used 100W transformer on eBay.
