What's up with all the embedded links in the posts the last few days? Now when I drag my mouse down the screen if I happen to cross one I get an annoying pop-up commercial. :( Did we need this to keep costs down or something?

More garbage to filter out. AAAARRRRRGGGGHHHH!

It's not just here. I have seen it on a lot of sites the last few days. The only way I have found so far to stop it is to disable JavaScript. But that can cause problems loading other websites.

I'm not getting that? What browser are you using? Did you do any updates with it, like the flash update recently, that included the add-on Google toolbar?

Well, if it's my machine I'll figure a way to put a stop to it.

Browser is IE-8; no Google toolbar, most recent flash player update not installed yet.

Alan, I'm pretty sure it is something about your set up, inadvertent or not. I use Fire Fox and do not see what you describe.

I use Firefox as well, and no problems with ad links or whatever you are seeing. I would recommended you install Firefox. And get the "Ad Block" add-in.

I haven't used IE for at least 8 years, it sucks.

Sorry, Alan!
It may be all my fault.
I filled out an opinion poll earlier this week that wanted the names of three people with lots of money that enjoyed pop-up ads on their computers.

After two MMRs names, your name, ESPEE FAN, was all I could remember.

I use both, FF at work and IE8 at home ... neither is behaving the way you describe. I just suggested Flash as an example, as I installed that the other night (a long time after they made it available) and noticed the checkbox for installing Google toolbar. I've noticed this is a trend with a lot of updates - offering Bing, Yahoo, Ask, and Google toolbars as part of the update with the checkbox defaulted to accepting.

If something along these lines did happen, you should be able to track this down through Add/Remove programs.

Installed Safari, same problem. It's the java scripting. Disabled it, and no more problems. I wish the techno-geeks would quit trying to "enhance" my internet browsing experience or maybe come up with something I might actually WANT

Sheesh...

Please don't do this again , I've been through 32 threads and haven't found one (WORD type link to popups) only those links that were posted by our membership and you have to click on those.
Switch to Firefox or some other quality browser that ill keep out the trash unless you ask for it unintentionally.

Sorry I upset you with my question Willis. This just started happening spontaneously without me installing any updates or changing any settings, which is why I asked. It also happens on my Mac with Safari, so I confirmed I was having the same issue on two very different machines before I queried the forum.

No problem Alan, sorry, guess my post didn't come off right either, should have read it before clicking to post. I can't see Bob buying into something like that, at least not without first warning us. I've seen those pop-ups on RV Net and they're a royal pain in the a$$ so I use the scroll bars to avoid them and look only at threads with titles that might interest me. I rarely go there now as I imagine many more will drop out of those forums too.

PS "I check the threads anyway" :D

Embedded links

I too am getting these extremely annoying underlined pop-up links as of yesterday. Like Alan, I have done nothing to my PC to prompt this. I use IE 8 and no additional tool bars. What gives?? I don't need more unwanted ads!

I have the most recent version of Firefox and they are still there if I turn the JavaScript back on. I have not used IE is almost 6 years. I just installed the Ad Blocker add on for Firefox and it seems to have taken care of the problem.

I don't have any add blocker, just avast, spybot search and destroy, spyware blaster, the last two haven't been updated for some time. The Sun Java is always running and I don't get any of that crap unless it's actually part of a forum as I posted about RV Net. To the best of my knowledge this forum just doesn't have that source of revenue, however you maybe should PM the administrator and ask his opinion of what's going on, he's got a lot more smarts than I have.

Interesting. Both my Google and my IE8 with Javascript enabled have no pop ups showing up here:confused:

I've been running some tests recently on my Mac as well using Safari and still nothing. Privacy settings? Megh?

Willis, did Bob start using contentlinks?
(deliberately placed link follows):http://www.kontera.com/

They will pop up if you are not logged in to the forum, but should go away after logging on. It's a way to generate revenue from anonymous users, or "guests".

Can't get any weird reactions (popups) when I'm not logged in. I've gone through several long threads (passing the cursor over the words in each post) and nothing, same as when I'm logged on. To the best of my knowledge the only advertising here is the banner adds at the top of the pages.
You'll have to ask Bob to confirm that it isn't so. When there is to be a change in the forum or in the software Bob informs us, so as to why you are getting the popups I have no idea.

Cheers
Willis

Thanks for all the interaction of ideas. I took Terry's suggestion and logged in. The embedded pop-ups went away. I hope that is the solution. It would have been nice to have been warned of the change.
I generally only log in when I see something of interest to me. Guess I'll change my ways.
