I know how bad that feels. I sold my place to downsize and had to dismantle a layout I was working on tor over 35 years.What's happening on MY layout? Nothing. Absolutely nothing.
And nothing ever will again.
Because the layout is gone.
Due to circumstances I won't go into, my wife and I found it necessary to sell our house and move into a 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom apartment. So the layout had to come down and go bye-bye.
For medical reasons she has to sleep with her head elevated, and sometimes her feet as well. I cannot do that. So she got the big bedroom, with attached bathroom, because she has a queen sized bed. I took the smaller bedroom and bought a full sized bed. Add a dresser, nightstand, printer stand, and desk for my computer and scale model building. There is no room for a layout. I saved a few locomotives, and most of my 2 tone gray UP passenger cars. I also hung onto the Branchline Trains boxcar kits I, along with the test track and NCE PowerCab, but the rest is gone.

The cube on the left of the last pic is my dehydrator. Perfect for curing acrylic paints!
Off course, prior to the "before" pitcher there was a piece of track there. Out came the Dremel with a cutoff wheel and I started cutting, then the cleaning of the glue impression where the old track was and the fitting of the turnout...that's what took most of the time, took me about 5 or so hours to hand fit the curved turnout in place. I glued the track in place last night after I installed Atlas code 83 track feeders at both ends. I did not install any feeders on the turnout itself because I do not know the final radius yet. The Liquid Nails should be dry by now (although we do have a lot of humidity) and I still have to install a Caboose Ind. ground throw. I am eliminating any Tortoise machines that can be replaced with ground throws that I can easily reach. I accidently throw the toggle switches and I have not installed turnout position lights so it it much easier to go and throw the ground throw so I can make sure the train is going where I want it to. I plan on installing a BTS MaCabe Power Station at the turnout there being fed by coal from the coal mine in Daphetid. Don't have a clue how much coal a power station uses to light a small town but I will have 3 or 4 coal cars on the siding. The BTS Power Station was ran by sawdust from the McCabe Lumber yard; but it's my railroad and the town folks elected dirty plentiful coal instead of sawdust to run there power station; besides when the sun goes down, the city rolls up their sidewalks and head to the nearest saloon
Honestly, I don't know of anyone that has painted the frame work of their layout. The fascia board will cover most of that and you WILL change your design sooner that later, so get on with the layout; there are more important things to do
