here's an interesting question. My wife and I are in the process of getting our house ready to move into at the end of the month (no more apartment, room for a train area, YEAH!) with the help of my father. Anyway, while sweeping up a HUGE pile of sawdust, on a whim I dumped it into a grocery bag and kept it. My question is, what are/ is there any use for sawdust on a layout? Maybe some kind of scenery, rolling stock load....any thing? I figured I'd be able to find some use for it....

Depending on how fine the saw dust is, you could use it for a wood chip pile at a mill, or as a wood chip load. If it is really fine dust it can double as diesel traction sand or powder spills on or around covered hoppers and their load/unloading facilities.

I keep all kinds of odd stuff that may be useful one day for a model. Its going to cause me lots of headaches when I have to move!

I use it for chip loads from my sawmill. I have heard others using it for ground cover in forested areas.

Back in the 70's and early 80's I used to dye sawdust green and use it as ground cover on the back areas of the layout. That way I saved a bit of money.

Wood chip loads, piles at a sawmill, or use it on forest floor. I would take an old window screen or similar and shake it on that you probably dont want what goes thru because of the dusty factor.
