Here is a discontinued Rusty Rail product i painted a couple years ago.

You could produce similar boxcar or caboose structures used as offices, beauty shops or other small businesses. I have seen one boxcar with the trucks removed that was a small engine repair shop.
you are limited only by your imagination.

BTW guys, I have been working on some of the 3d modeling. I have had more trouble off and on getting my printer printing smooth. 😅
But I AM working on it all.
Also have a model project almost done. Looking forward to it.

Hey guys.
As you may know, I have started getting into 3d printing. For a while now, I have been planning on making and selling prints on our ebay store. So a question that I have been planning on asking, is what would you want printed? Or more so, what are some things you may have heard fellow modelers say "I wish we had more of...", or "why don't they make...".
That one is easy for me. I need an EMC E5 body both A and B units that fit the Proto-2000 E6 frame. Can one "plate" 3d printing filament material? And I need a body for a Missouri Pacific E7 that has the two round port holes rather than the single square ones. That would also be A & B. Many more choices on the chassis. Model Power, Proto-2000, Walther's Proto, BLI, Rapido, ummm who hasn't made an E7?

The long list:
Santa Fe style town name signs.
Santa Fe style semaphores - has 3d printing gotten that finely detailed yet?
etc.
And of course the Wabash Delmar station in St. Louis. Ha!

I don't need it myself, (that I know of😁) but I have seen/heard of a lot of interest in power plant type cooling towers like this one. I don't know if it would be viable to 3D print, but I figured I'd throw it out there.View attachment 258805
Hey, always open to ideas! 😁
Maybe in N scale, but it might be a little hard (Or just big) in any other scale. But you never know once I start printing.

This is more of a specific idea, but I like a challenge. :)👍
So when (And If) I do the loco shells, I will need measurements. I have a Proto E7 or 8 (I cant remember), but is the chassis the same for a E6/E5?
Not sure what you meant when saying "Can one "plate" 3d printing filament material? ".
Doing things like signals will probly not work with a FDM Printer, but maybe if I ever get resin printer.
I could do signs. Show me what you mean when you get the chance. Printing has gotten fairly detailed, but some things just will not work with FDM.
And I might be able to do the station, depending how big it is (Or how detailed you want it).
All great ideas.

Walther's has been using a thing they call "real metal finish" on their stainless steel passenger cars. It is not silver paint, so I can only assume it is some sort of plating system. One would connect the cathode to the body and dip it into the plating agent to have the electrons coat the surface with the designated metal.

Got it. No I am not sure if that is feasible with 3d prints. What signs were you suggesting?
