Dyed sawdust turns after a couple of years. I've found that the ground foam and other materials I use keep their color over the years. In the spots I used dyed sawdust it looks like someone used weed killer on it. I'm glad I didn't use it in a lot of places. Some will be kept brown, but I'll go over other areas with fresh ground foam.

I took this as a reference to the color of the freight cars...the Santa Fe half were always Mineral Brown in color! Shows why it's known around here as the
Big
New
Santa
Fe.

Here’s my CSX train L030 east of Rochester, NY in Fall 1999, just after the splitup. It’s headed by SD45 6091 and SD60 6834, patched “CSXT”. This is taking mixed merchandise to the interchange with my (freelance) Genesis Terminal Railroad.

My 0-6-0 tank loco pulled this string of freight, as well as performed several operations with the assistance of my brakeman granddaughter.
She even suggested we turn the loco around on the turntable, which we did, as well as throw several switches and take the alternate tracks.
A fun time was had by all!
