We own a lot of Thomas movies. I was wondering what scale the layout is that they use to film these movies.

Anyone know?

Thanks. I've googled it and all I get is the toys, movis, etc. I couldn't ever find anything on the layout itself.

Yeah, we have the HO Thomas and three open hopper cars. I've even had to arrange trackage rights for the Sodor Railway on the Rock Island lines to help keep the peace around here!:D

We were just wondering if the actual Thomas model railroad was O, OO, or HO. My wife thought it looked like G scale. I was thinking O.

Does anyone know where the layout used for the movies is or was built? which country I mean. I like to watch the series, lots of things to learn about the layout and weathering.

Gauge 1 wouldn't surprise me at all - they make the eyes move and all that in the videos, don't they?

Easier with a larger scale.

Curiosilty took the lead, and I went to watch an episode of Thomas, and I noticed that the scale is much bigger then HO or OO, the figures have atriculation and alot of details, which you won't find in HO / OO . I think its some G scale. Also noticed that the rails seem to be large too.

This is what I found!!

The models were initially built to the 1:32 scale, known in model railway circles as "Gauge 1". They used chassis made by Märklin with specially made bodies. As well as the eye mechanisms, these bodies also include smoke generators. Coaches and trucks were made using Tenmille kits. Models were later constructed entirely from scratch.

From Season 5 onwards, some larger scale models were used for the narrow gauge characters, in order to make it easier to fit the complex mechanisms into them while retaining a sufficient level of detail. In Season 6, the characters known as "the Pack" (construction machines) were also constructed to a large scale, and large models of Thomas and Percy were made to interact with them. Beginning with the ninth season, the Thomas model also interacted with the narrow gauge engines. It was joined by a large version of James in the tenth season. Then in Season 11's Engines and Escapades, large scale models of Annie and Clarabel were made to interact with the narrow gauge engines.
