What is this box?

On top of the fuel tank there is this box. Looks to hold some sort of electrical equipment. It seems to be on all SD90Macs.

I am not quite sure I have check other photos and not all of them have that "box". I will check my archive in Diesel Era...they did a wonderful issue on the this unit. Will get back to this unless someone beats me to it.
 
IIRC, its the port for the traction motor cables, notice they come out of the box on the side closest to us.
 
That box is on all the phots of the SD9043MAC's that I have, so it looks like it was standard equipment. I vaguely remember that they held the computer for a wheelslip indicator and compensator.
