What ever happened to that "weathered cars" forum?

I remember the work shown there was of the finest quality, but I could never get a complement from them. In fact, the members there seemed to relish critiquing.

Then they started charging for memberhip?

Is this the place? You have to sign in to view the forum, but I don't see anything about paying.

I think he's referring to another one that ended up closing shop. They were getting lots of spammers, they made it almost likea private site for memberships, needed to pay, i think it was called model trains weathered or something like that. It was a great site, lots of awesome work. The other site listed has some outstanding members also.

I believe the site you are referring to is Modeltrainsweathered. The owner of the site tried making it into a paid site, but it didn't take off. I think he had family or work commitments as well, which made him shut down the site. Most of the guys from that site are on the Weatheringshop site and also this site, which is quite similar to the old MTW site as far as the comments go. http://www.protomodeler.com
Some people don't really like honest evaluations of their work, and get upset when they are criticized, but I always found their comments encouraging and helpful, even if they weren't always positive comments. If you do a good job on something they will let you know. If you do a lousy job, they will tell you also. But they will also tell you how to do it better next time or help you along the way. If you are interested in improving your weathering skills, both the Weathering shop and the Protomodeler site are excellent sites to learn from. Ron
