what DCC to go with

ModelRailroadForums.com is a free Model Railroad Discussion Forum and photo gallery. We cover all scales and sizes of model railroads. Online since 2002, it's one of the oldest and largest model railroad forums on the web. Whether you're a master model railroader or just getting started, you'll find something of interest here.

It would help if you told us a little more about your layout. How big? How many operators? How many trains running at one time? Do you want wireless operation? What do YOU need in the way of features?

I'd also suggest you search the archives here, as there are a number of discussions on what to use. We will tell you what we use and what we like. Your milage may vary :D I have used both Digitrax and NCE. Digitrax first then I converted to NCE. Both are excellent systems, expandable, and give great value for the money. They are also very close in price.

Listen to those who have used multiple systems, or go to your local hobby shop and have them run through the various features of each system, especially if they have demo units. If you're in the Denver area Caboose Hobbies has a demo of every major system out there. Also, review all the manufacturer's websites to see the different features.

After a lot of research, I went with the NCE product, as it seemed easier for me to learn and use. Depending on what you are looking for out of a systme, NCE may not be the right choice for you.

Also it helps if you can find out what the majority of the modelers in your area use. Once you do that, and get the system they use, you'll have on hand a ready made "database" of users that can help you with any problems you may have.
