What color green?!

ModelRailroadForums.com is a free Model Railroad Discussion Forum and photo gallery. We cover all scales and sizes of model railroads. Online since 2002, it's one of the oldest and largest model railroad forums on the web. Whether you're a master model railroader or just getting started, you'll find something of interest here.

I have recently acquired a locomotive that is painted in primer grey that had the long hood of a GP7, Frame and trucks of an SW, and cab and nose of a U-Boat. It screams for proper paint.

My railroad is called the Eastern Pacific, for an idea of the system take Milwaukee Road and SP before UP got it, and you have the system.

The paint scheme I have decided on is Green with White trim, reminiscent of the BN "Hockey Stick" passenger scheme. But a little different in a couple ways.

The conundrum is that I have not decided on an official shade of EP green in paint. It isnt Cascade Green, but more blue and a wee bit darker.

So, that said, does anybody have any ideas for which brand/color of model paint to buy?

Sounds like maybe one of the BCR greens?
I'm not big on my paints but thought I'd throw that at you.

So I suddenly realized I was an idiot and had already DEFINED EP Green, and just needed to find the closest match.

So this is what I have in MIND, but thank you for the suggestions so far--I think SOU Green might be the closest.

What do you guys think?

I'd recommend looking at the Model Master military colors, there's plenty of greens in there...

Southern green looks really close to me. Where did you ever come up with such a bastardized locomotive? Sounds like the work of a mad scientist. :)

you GOTTA post a pic of that thing...

Okay. 1 and 2 are the ebay pics, and the last is a mashup i did from bits of various locomotives from the RR Paintshop...

For the record, I think you guys are bang on with Southern Green. I looked at the swatch of it at my LHS and it is perfect...

And yes i know the couplers on the line drawing are backward. You didnt notice until I pointed it out did you?

many that is one sweet little critter!!! I'll have to make one now..

I DO have 2 spare u-boat cabs, and a few GP shells... all I need are a few SW chassis...

if it were me I'd paint that for a plant switcher or something thing would fit for a grain mill or other big industry IMO

Boy, I don't know if that thing is weird, cute, ugly, or a combination of all three. :) No matter what you paint it, you've got to take it to a club somewhere and run it. It will drive the rivet counters nuts. :D

Is it powered? If so what frame is it using? I really like the looks of that engine!!!

Yes it is powered. It is on an SW Frame and trucks, the only hard bashing was done in the body.

It got DCC on Monday and ran tonight at the club. A few guys definitely did double takes. Great fun!

I have also heard tale of an F45 being shortened to run on an SW frame, and I may have to make one of those. I do have a few other ideas I'll keep in my vest for now...

That is a sweet little critter!
There's something similar sitting in an LHS I've been eyeing up, maybe I'll snag it next time I'm in.

Photos?

I am pretty new to this forum but have been in HO for years. I love the lines of that engine. Whoever built that sure came up with a nice engine.
