What are you buying this Month?

ModelRailroadForums.com is a free Model Railroad Discussion Forum and photo gallery. We cover all scales and sizes of model railroads. Online since 2002, it's one of the oldest and largest model railroad forums on the web. Whether you're a master model railroader or just getting started, you'll find something of interest here.

After my Digitrax DB150 developed a short; I had to replace it. Doing so opened a can of worms. You can't just eat one potato chip, so I had to buy a new power supply, then since I bought the new command station, I had to buy the new throttle to go with it, and since my old throttle holders will not hold the new throttle, I had to buy new throttle holders...assuming my UP5's are compatible with the new throttle, that should be it for a while...a little bit more money than I want to spend...but like they say you can't just eat one potato chip; so I bought everything...I hope. I will not install the new stuff until I am finished re-wiring. I am a little over half-way done. It is a very slow process. I can't assume anything, so I hook up my volt meter to an outside rail (red wire) and check continuity with the wires in a general area under the table. No more hooking up 20 wires then checking continuity for me. I have learned my lesson
Thankfully I have the older throttles so I can the New Rail Models throttle holders. The new digitrax ones are a little big for me. I do have three of them though to hold my spare throttles, mounted on the wall by my workbench. And yes, the UP5 will work just fine with the new throttle.

Got my first coil car in the mail today! Saw these Rapido Greenbrier Transverse Coil Cars a couple weeks ago that someone had posted about online. I got the Union Pacific version. My first Rapido freight car and can't wait to run it!

Received a MicroAce N scale DEKI 201 in the mail today. My only other MicroAce that I bought turned out to be noisier than heck and I did a coreless motor transplant to try to quiet it down, which it did a bit, but with straight cut gears, it'll always be noisy.

I saw some reviews on this and it seemed quiet enough. Glad that it is. And it was cheap.

i did a pre order for the following locomotive for an upcoming H0 scale project

I have a question for all you US Railroad insiders.

this loco was around in the late 60ies i would say if i remember correctly.
i was checking what industrial cars they where hauling around Nashville well they did almost everything.
But now my question would be, how can i find specific rollingstock from that time?

I would be interested in normal "shorter" boxcars or maybe graincars? Or maybe even coal?

Thank you for helping.

cheers
Marco

40' boxcars were still everywhere as well as 2-3 bay covered hoppers. Also coal was till being used heavily, so 2-3 bay open hoppers were common in lashups from 3-30 cars long on moving coal. And of course tank cars, although I'm not sure of when the "beer can" tank cars started appearing.

Ah you’ve found your unicorn, sweet!
I’ve never been a big fan of brass but I have to say steamers like this really justify it!
Yeah, a unicorn is pretty much what it is. They come up for sale now & then, and each time they are more expensive. I was just going to paint up one to match this, but there are things I can't duplicate with just paint, so I bit the bullet and bit it hard! 😁 I got into brass not because I was in love with the idea, but because I wanted accurate models, and for some things, brass was the only way to get them. 🤷‍♀️

A SP S-2 0-6-0. This model is painted as were the passenger station switchers. They were the company image and were "dressed formally". The model is a brass import offered by Challenger Imports. One of only 56 made. Smooth quiet runner, all wheel pick up. Needs DCC installed. This was a Holy Grail model!

My, that is a beauty! That's not just a model, it's a work of art. Enjoy!

I got a couple of goodies this month, first is this very fine Nickle Plate Road lantern I got a local thrift store. It has NKP stamped on the top and etched into the globe. Thank you very much to Holly H. (store owner) for giving me a great deal on it!

Then, I found one of my unicorns (of sorts) on fleabay the other day. It needs some repair, but should be easily fixable and is well worth it. It's a Hallmark CM 200 series Vauclain compound. These are the seller's photos, FYI, it only shipped yesterday, so I actually don't have it in my hands yet, but I've been hunting one of these at a reasonable price for a very long time.

Looks like it needs a little work but should make a nice model!
