Wethered some cars, how do I prevent smudges and smears?

As you saw in another thread on here, I did my first weathering powders job today. My only issue is, I tried to pick up the cars and I smudged the powders I was using for weathering smeared some. How do I prevent this espcially when I don't have a layout and am moving soon, and thus have to take my cars in and out of packaging a lot?

I use a very light over-spray of Valspar Clear Flat to seal the powders. You may have top apply another layer of powder afterward and lightly over-spray again. I posted a few photos of some of my stuff in your other thread.

Anything weathered with powders must be sprayed with a clear coat to "fix" the weathering.

I just mix my weathering powders with thinned white glue and alcohol. It's pretty easy to manipulate with the brush, and it needs no sealer.

Is it safe to assume that you're only using the alcohol as a wetting agent, (just a few drops in the thinned glue), to prevent the thinned glue from beading up on the plastic?
