I have been taking some more photos of the Seneca Lake, Ontario, & Western RR in preparation for Merit Judging.

I realize that a couple were already posted during the week, but decided to include them for any that didn't keep up with the thread.

Wow Grampy, stunning shot, felt like I was back standing in the middle of a yard.

Jeffrey, those wheels look great, what did you use to paint the wheel faces? Those are spot on, fine work!

Ray, you're layout gets my vote! Are those the Busch corn rows? If so, how did you like them, did they assemble easily? I am looking at the Busch grape vineyard for my layout, and plan to cover an entire hill with about 4 or 5 kits, but I don't know anyone who used them before, so am unsure about them. How do you like the Busch stuff overall?

Ray, really fine scenery. I think you'll do fine in the judging. DJ.

By the way Grampy, what did you use for high stand switch stands in your yard? Those are the best ones I have seen yet. Do they offer diamond headed targets?

I used Floquil paint pens for all of the coloring on the trucks. The wheels were done with a rust pen while the truck body was done with a combination of rust and rail tie brown.

Thank you sir! The corn rows are from Alkem Scale Models. They are a bit of work, but turn out looking very nice. http://www.geocities.com/bkempins/ASMMain/Corn.html

Wow! Lots of really great modelling displayed. Impressive imaging, too, fellas. :D

DJ, another immense scene....places the person smack-dab in the yard.

Ray, you really hit a homer with the car path left in the image as it makes its way along the the side of the barn or stable.

For this week, I show K4s #1361 churning up the grade out of Seneca River Valley.

Thanks, guys. CCT, they are Details West and operate with the switch, and they come with round or diamonds.
Crandell, that's a great looking passenger train.DJ.

Ray, I had an idea, you don't have to choose to do it at all, and your scenery is not any worse for not doing it (It looks amazing how it is!). I was wondering if you have ever toyed with the idea of lightly sprinkling darker ground foam throughout your trees? It might add to the illusion of shadowing in the trees. It might be worth experimenting on in a non-judged area to start with.

Otherwise, keep on the track your on, everything looks beautiful!

Thank you Adam! The suggestion is certainly worth a try. I try it when I am doing some more trees.

Thanks Jeffrey, I wasn't aware Floquil made paint pens, I'll have to pick some up, thanks to you, I have a valid excuse to go up to Lodi to the train shop!

Ray, I love your farm scene. It feels like a farm without needing a huge area to model it.

Crandell, I could have sworn that the train had gray cars and a Niagara doing the work! I must be getting old!:D

Everyone else, nice work this week. My work isn't exactly photogenic right now. Maybe some day I'll have something to share.

Nice work, everyone.

Ray, you sure look ready for the scenery judging. Very nice agricultural scenes, something not seen too often on layouts.

DJ. I really like the flat and even look you have to your yard. Looks like back in the days when the Pennsy still groomed ballast, even in the yard.

Crandell, nice effect with the light reflecting off the mountainside. How did you do it?

SW, nice shot of some classic locomotives.

The lighting is due to an overhead GU10 50 watt Halogen directly overhead, Jim. I use track lighting, and in some instances you just gotta go with what you get. Usually my halogens are somewhat further away from the subject, but this time the distance is about 24" vertical. I agree, it seems to be okay, like the sun peeking out through a hole in the clouds.
