What I've been working on today:

You guessed it! Another metal Varney F3. This one was likely made late 40's, early 50's. Some of the handrails were falling off. I fixed them. The frame was broken and the drive torn down and incomplete so it now has an Athearn drive. I wanted some extra weight in it so I cut down an Athearn superweight to fit in the shell but leave plenty of room for a decoder. It weighs nearly two pounds so should be able to pull a lot.

Nice shot of the rail, GP! TC&I, (Tennessee Coal and Iron), plant where they made the rail, was here in B'ham. Rail like that, is getting rarer and rarer. The plant where it was made is now the USS pipe plant.

On my last visit to Pennsylvania, I found out where the Brickyard was, just outside Altoona, and this is what I saw there,NS1067.jpg

Some Weathered Cars

This weekend I finally gave weathering a try. These are some boxcars that I weathered. These were the very first cars I ever weathered. I think they turned out nice. :)

Here's a shot of a CB&Q S-4 Hudson, that I refurbished last year. Still looking great.

CB&Q streamlined a couple of their S-4's to serve as backup to the new Zephyr locomotives.

oh my that is sexy i had no idea they had those, how the pulling power on those

The Matagorda Bay, Buffalo Bayou and Gulf Coast Railroad (BB&G) has laid a "shoo-fly" track in Teller Texas. Rowe yard is expanding, and the main line had to be adjusted to compensate. As a "bonus" 6 axle power should now be able to operate beyond the yard limits.

The old block signal came down too. It is unknown at this time if it will be replaced or not, but it was in the way with the yard limits getting extended almost half a mile to the west.

It didn't have enough weight in it at first, so I added more weight to it and also balanced it. It went from pulling 6 Limited Editions CB&Q heavyweights to 12. Excellent runner. Smooth and quiet. It could probably do with a bigger motor, but the owner doesn't want to replace it, so I went with his wishes.
