I have been finishing up work on the yard, planting some more "silflor" grass, and reballasting a couple places that the glue didn't take (ie: pot holes in the tracks) and gerally getting ready for the layout tour in a week.
The area around the coal tower:
A few shots of the yard now with cars returned.....
Ray, I really like your coaling tower...great job on that. The yard is very good and looking very roomy. Same with DJ's...tons of space...how long is that anyway, about thirty feet?
Jeff, I really like the overhead view you have provided...it adds a whole nuther feel to your layout. Very imaginative and nicely done around the static display.
I have a new addition to the steamer family, and it showed up to surprise the gang repairng the turnout to access the spur to the Sentinel Coal Mine. For once this UP engine actually looks like it belongs on my weird-lanced scenery that is oh-so-western, but with PRR and NYC engines on it.
Hi: Crandell, that still makes a nice back drop for a handsome TTT. And,Trent thought it was 50'.
Jeffrey, what happened, poor service?
Karl, love those "Sharks", nice job on yours.
Jeffrey, I think I have seen those people who drove down the tracks on the news recently. I think this must have been the before photo.
Grampy, your rails are ..... blue???
Macjet, have you ever tried CV switch kits? I was wondering how they compare to FastTracks.
Ray, nice photos. I wouldn't have wanted to paint the rr name on the coaling tower, it is very high up on a steep roof.
Crandell, nice track straightener. If you need them straighter still, UP also had some 12 coupled engines, 4-12-2 maybe?
That excellent shark paint job looks similiar to a difficult to paint western rr. I know I was very glad to have the yellow stripe to cover the separation.
Well, 1982 called and they wanted their B30-7A back so it will be shipping out shortly.
Hi Paul: I don't remember painting the rails blue, of course memory is the first thing to go, or so they say. . Serially, I believe it's a reflection of the back drop on shiny rails.
Ray that coaling tower looks similar to the Gloor Craft kit I got in last week in O scale to build for a client.
Here are some of the pieces that I have been working on this week.
First up is a "Hide" building for a slaughter house complex, the elevated walkway connects to the main killing floor while the building is used to store the hides till they can be transported to a tannery in a old box car. The wood tank is part of the complex.
Next up a wood holding tank for waste which is also part of the slaughter house complex. This complex will be roughly 8' in length when completed and is in O scale.
Then there is an shortline water tank. Design is freelanced but based on the Jamestown tank on the Sierra Railroad. This was the tank made famous in the opening scenes of Pettycoat Junction. This piece is in HO.
And last up a D&RGW 50,000 gallon narrow gauge tank in O scale.
No I haven't. I looked into them when I was shopping for a better turnout but I haven't actually seen one in person. Our Free-mo group down here has some pooled tooling and with my purchase we now have the FastTracks #5, 6, and 8 turnout jigs.
Nice pictures so far folks. I've been wanting to share my extremely slow progress with you. Some where along the way of building my trestle, I decided to add the old concrete auto bridge. Now I'm stacking and carving foam to try to mimic the actual location. Here are a few progress picks. As you can see, I have a long way to go!
And, of course, the actual area that is haunting me at times! Of course, this photo was taken forty years before my layout era.
Thanks Trent. Another thing that is hanging me up is water level. I can't decide which would be more fun to model. A high water level would be much easier than low. However, am I looking for easy? If I'm honest with myself, I know I'll be modeling late summer, early fall. That dictates lower water levels. There!, I just decided! Thanks for the compliment.
