See, John, I told you that street lights would come next. Don't the town streets look a little dark too? :) Nice job for a cheap lampost. Next time you're in a craft store, check out the bead section. They have jeweled beads you can drill out and make a nice street light lense.

You were right

While I was in California this past week, I stopped by the M&ET to see some of thier 70 tonn locomotives. It was foggy so the pictures aren't the best. I also got a couple pictures of thier two SW1500's.

Great work on those Lamp posts. I suppose I'll have to build those once I've finalized my downtown area.

Getting used to using a digital camera here. For some reason the shot came out a little orangish, but at least I can now do close-ups.

Boy, I'm surprised the M&ET still has the 70 tonners in service. 600-603 were acquired new between 1947 and 1952 and are apparently still in daily use. The M&ET is not only the largest shortline operator of 70 tonners but they have been snapping up used models from all over the country. I guess the two SW 1500's spells the beginning of the end for the 70 tonners. :( The M&ET has always been a class operation and maintains all their motive power in top notch condition, which is why they probably still have 50 year old locomotives in daily service. I hope the 70 tonners stay on for a while - they were always one of my favorite small locos. Nice pics during a typical winter Central Valley tule fog day.

Glen, nice PA there. I always get that yelllowish cast when I have too long an exposure using macro mode. Try cutting down the exposure time a bit. I posted some a few weeks ago where I deliberately over exposed to get that yellowish cast to simulate dawn and they were awful. :)

John, now you have to decide what kind of street lights you want. There's post style made of cast iron or concrete, older arch style, or modern arch style with sodium vapor lights...and then there's the modern square lights mounted on high posts to illuminate a larger area while keeping the posts back out of the likely path of car comng off the road. Decisions, decisions. :) Let me know when you get to street light number 59 and then we'll start our own transatlantic street light addiction group. :D

Nice shots of well maintaned equipment Smoke , It would be nice if evreyone would take so much pride in their stuff. Glen sure glad that you are able to do some closeup work now !
