Hi all: I'm getting caught up on weathering my locos and cars. I also tried Paul Dolkas weeds from Oct. MR. Reading GP-7 and a short string of coal hoppers.

Jeffrey, those are some bright headlights!

Garmps, nice shots as usual. Your weed experiment came out good. Fo some reason, your pictures are spread out all over the page instead of being oposted in-line. That same thing happened last week. How are you posting your pics?

Anthony, you ended the video too soon. I wanted to see more of the night shots with that F unit. Time to get out the weathering chalks and some dullcote for your freight cars though - the glare is killing me. :)

Hi Jim: Thanks, I like the look of those weeds, too. Yeah, I noticed that too. Although, this week when I pull up this post, they are all in line. Here's how I post pics on this forum. From Photobucket, I click on the direct line, copy to somewhere, I forget what it's called, then in the insert image box I hit ctrl V and the url goes into the box, then I hit insert, and that's what I get. I'm using FireFox, if that helps. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi All,

Great start to the weekend. Here are the 10 completed wagons for the HO scale American Freedom Train. The wagons are scratchbuilt with custom made decals. Wagons 14,15,16, and 17 all have signs that are folded down on the tops of them for travel. This is turning out to be one of the most rewarding projects I've ever done.

If you are in the mid-west (Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa) you'll get a chance to see this train at the shows this fall/winter.

Here are the 10, front and back views.

Have a safe weekend....Johnny

Nice start...no terrific start, gentlemen. Jeff, your diesel is looking great, and I have been following your reno. I sense that you are feeling revitalized with this project.

DJ, great imagery showing a wonderful set of eyes' and hands' work. I agree with others who say you have a natural ability in this hobby.

Johnny, great work...and a lot of it. That is way beyond me, and probably always will be. My hat is off to you, Sir.

Here is an improved image composition much like one I think I showed here a couple or three weeks back. Another master photog got on my case (very nicely) and convinced me to get into my camera's manual and get used to adjusting manual settings. So, after finding that my Canon Powershot had its saturation and contrast on "rich", or "high", I set it to neutral, learned how to adjust shutter speed, and then played with lights, focus, and camera-to-subject distances to get this improved version.

Gramps, I can see what you did wrong. You posted each image, one after the other, without any spaces or carriage returns. I reformatted the images so they are each on thier own line. If you hit reply, you can see how the code lines up.

Looks much better than having to scroll around to see your fine work. :)

Bill, nice scratchbuilding jobs on those wagons. Will they be transported on flatcars along with the Freedom Train or on their own flat cars in a different train?

Crandell, not that I know a darn thing about photography, but I do know what I like. You revised picture has much more even lighting with nice shadows and good depth of field. On top of that, it's in focus! I'm lucky if I get that far. :)

Any locomotive of mine that you see is gonna have bright headlights. I don't play with LED's.

I agree. It is sort of like what is the point of good music if you can't feel it?
Kato SD70MAC on the left with stock lights replaced with Surface Mount LEDs (SMLED). Athearn SD70MAC on the right with stock incandecents. It still needs lots of details added. It said BN SD70MAC on the box but was actually BNSF, too new for my time so I haven't decided what to do with it yet. Its details are different so a repaint won't cut it.

Hi Jim: Thank you for taking the time to straighten things out for me. Did you just put one space between each one? Thanks, Crandell. Isn't it fun playing around with these new fangled digital cameras? I have to admit, one can do amazing things with them. That is a great shot, BTW.

Yeesh, Paul look at the difference in the hand rails between the Kato & Genesis. I guess that edges me away from Kato even more.

Not to mention the wipers, grabs, lift bars.... It is nice that you don't have to make all that stuff yourself on a Kato but it is phat. Genesis is good for standard M cabs, they missed it a bit on the I cabs on which Kato did a very nice job. And all plastic handrails are cheap and junky looking anyway.

Some of you have probably seen these across the street, but I'll share them here as well.

This is only a progress shot. If not for progress shots, there wouldn't be any shots form me for a long time! Here is an over all shot of the bench work. The backdrop won't go on until next week.

Nice work to start off the weekend everyone!

Grampy and Crandell you gotta stop posting stuff like that. I mean I keep having to wipe the drool off my computer keyboard....... Corey great benchwork!

I spent almost a full day installing a remote tortoise mount this week. Would have been a simple job except for some poor planing a couple years ago on my part. I have a habit of doing those sort of things.... Actually I planned carefully for what I had planed to do at that time. I decided to get rid of the giant sized Caboose ground throws and use torti in there place. This one was one to really test my patience. Glad no one was around to hear me! The machine could not be mounted directly under the turnout so I decided to use the remote. Problem was I could either see where it needed to be mounted, or reach the area with my hands to do the job. Here is the finished project. I focused on the actuator that throws the points on the turnout as that is what was a monster to install. The rest went together quite easily.

This is where the actuator had to be installed:

You can see the actuator mount up in back to the right of the toggle switch. The toggle is temporarily mounted where it is until a fascia board is installed.

Last known pic I could find of the prototype....

As you can see I will have to add the shades, bell, horns and beacon to the model....maybe a little grime....

Hi Jim,

Yeh, the wagons ride on three TT flats that were leased for the train. They were also painted in AFT colors. All three in primer now should be ready for debut next weekend........
