More decal work today on the SDP40F's.

Jeff - I see your passenger fleet is growing.

Gramps - stop raisin' the bar will ya!? (j/k :D ) Seriously, that's really outstanding work, what materials did you use - Woodland Scenics, Enivirotex,..? I have a stagnant stream that I plan to convert to a rapids one of these days.

Here's my contribution for this week: A home-grown cement distribution center, based on the now-discontinued WKW Medusa Cement kit:

I'll confess I did some 'digital cheating': The backdrop "sky" on the left-hand side was in shadow, and when I tried to correct that with a photo floodlight, that made it look even more bogus - so I 'normalized' the sky. Other than that, everything is as-it-was.

Jeffrey. I like your choice of fonts for the road name.

Gramps, that is one of the best looking "rushing rapids" types of streams I've ever seen. I'm with Ken, how did you do it. You must have some secret forumla. )

Ken, that cement plant came out really good. Who would guess it was a collection of PVC pipe a few weeks ago? :D

What passenger fleet? Those SDP40F's are being used for freight service.

That's the 'Railroad Roman' font. I downloaded it from the net years ago. The decals I'm using were printed up by a friend using an Alps printer. I can print decals with my inkjet but they don't come out as clear.

Thanks Jeff, Ken and Jim. Ken, your cement plant turned out great! As to the "roaring creek", I did the usual prep: seal, paint, and add rocks and dead falls/sticks. I used Magic Water for the stream. For the waterfall, I spread Permatex clear, RTV silicone sealant, with my finger, onto a sheet of waxed paper. I made it longer and wider than the spot it was going to. And I made it fairly thin. After it dried, I just peeled it off the wax paper. Then I cut it with scissors to fit. Finally, I poured a small amount of Magic Water over it. BTW, I didn't add any color, the blue is the reflection of the sky backdrop, just like real water.

Ooops, I thought I remembered seeing an E-unit and a PA-1 on your pike before - guess I just didn't pay close enough attention to what they were actually pulling!

My layout is all-freight too, except for a pair of RDC-1's that come out when my 10yr-old daughter joins me!

I have E units, F units, PA/PB1's, PA/PB2's, several SD's and a bunch of geeps as well as a few switchers, all are used for freight. The only loco I use for passenger service is a T2-a 2-10-2 that occasionally pulls a tourist train.

Outstanding pictures so far everyone!!

Attempted some weathering last night.

I need that cup shaped MU hose holder that goes on the handrails. Anyone know where I could find one?

Still working on getting this guy detailed. I might have went a little heavy on the weathering. It's easy to over do it.

Mike, I used some aluminum tubing cut to fit to make the MU cable holder on this one.

Mike, use a little Walthers Goo or contact cement to attach it to the stanchion. It works better than CA on that metal to metal.

Wow! Still Friday night and already some awesome photos here!

Once again it has been a very busy week so not much got done on the layout. I have finished decaling the boxcars though. It is amazing how many mistakes you can find after you photograph a model.........

The air bubbles in the decal will get fixed tomorrow. Other stuff I will just live with.....

Mike, that weathering looks good to me. I might run a few more streaks down the side of the covered hopper but that's about all I'd change. I was going to make the suggestion to use brass tube also but Jerome beat me to it. I did my first few using super glue and that was a mistake. They'll pop off a stanchion in a heartbeat and go flying across the room, never to be seen again. :) I've been using Gorilla Glue lately, which isn't as messy as Goo and still has some flexibility. Keep a lookout the next time you're in a hobby shop for K&S Engineering Sizes and Shapes. It comes in a reclosable plastic bag and has about 200 different sizes and shapes (just like the bag says) of brass, copper, and aluminum tubes and rods. Everything from fine brass rod to aluminum tubing big enough for a factory smokestack. It costs about $16 but I'll bet I've found 50 uses for this stuff on my models and layout. Way less expensive than buying by the piece and you always have a nice selction on hand.

Gramps, I like wax paper technique. I guess the key is to do it really thin and then have nice blue backdrop like you have. It certainly looks more like real water than any coloring agent I've seen used.

Ray, except for the air bubbles on the 687's decals, both cars look perfect to me. Either my eyes are going bad or you're way more of a perfectionist than me. If you get tired of looking at the "mistakes", I'll be happy to take them off your hands. :D

Well done everyone! I'll try and get some progress of my layout posted tomorrow sometime. I'm taking off for a week on holiday Sunday, but I will be back a week later with loads of old trains from my parents house! Gotta love digging through the old boxes.

Some shots of the interior of "Pat Gibbony's Car Shop" from Como on the C&S that I am building for a client. Piece is done in O scale from period photos of the prototype. Still have yet to finish the detailing on the interior, add the lights and set it on a detailed base.
