I'm working on a GTW Walthers 89' autorack. Here's the prototype that I'll be using.

The truck/wheels/frame/underbody have all been weathered (see weathering post for those).

The original Walthers car came with the panels painted blue. Here's the original car.

In this picture I've masked off the GT logo in preparation for paint.

In this picture the body got a light wash to fade the paint a bit.

And here are the doors all repainted in Floquils old silver. Also faded the logo area.

More to come after they dry and get dull coated.

This should be interesting. That rust pattern from the galavanized roof is a tough one to get right.

What did you use to wash the car to lighten the paint?

Chris, I use an acrylic paint I found at Wal Mart. The brand name is Apple Barrel, #20405 Antique White. It comes in an 8 oz. bottle (enough to last a year!!). Found it in the crafts section.

I thin it down with Windex, 20 to 1. It doesn't take much, and it can be wiped right off with alcohol and a paper towel.

OK, sorry it took so long, I actually set it aside to do some other things. Here's the finished car.

That looks fantastic. What technique did you use to weather the roof and rust streaks then?

Can you tell im going to need to know this for a bunch of auto racks I have too?:D

I may just be the photo but the rust does look too much like paint rather than a silver roof with rust showing through. I'm not sure if you were working from another prototype picture but the one at the top of the thread doesn't have all the rust at the bottom either.
