Waterbase model paints, are there any?


Polly S is one. Tamiya may be another. But instead of water use isopropyl alcohol. It wets better, dries faster.

If water thins it, iso will too.
 
I've been using these over the past 10 years. Be aware that you need to use different settings with your airbrush than you normally do for oil-based paints.
 
For things like structures and roads, the cheap acrylic craft paints you can get at Michaels work just fine. They are a little too thick for rolling stock but you can save the money you'd spend on better quality paint like Polly S and Badger for a lot of things on the layout.
