I was searching a way to run my Walthers RTR Gold Line 86' boxcar on a 18" radius curve leading to my yard. These car are made for 24" radius and the don't turn well on anything under 22" so I removed material on the underframe (see red dot on the pic) to gives more wheel clearance to the trucks. This does not change the overall appearance of the car and it work very well. I know, it overhang bad but as long it stay on the rail thats what is important. When I want to enjoy a life like view of my trains, I look at them in the straight parts of my layout.
Nice, crazy long.
I couldnt run my spectrum passenger car heavyweights Penn. under the christmas tree on 18" last year
My Polar Express look alike.
I bought a set of shorter lifelike scene master Pennsy cars that work better but not as nice looking. Perfect proportions though for 18" or 22" Go ebay LOL (kid safe)
I also bought a 22" loop for ithe heavyweights. Runs and looks better but I think they still need a 24" to loose the overhang effect. Its All fun though.
