Walther's BN GP9 DC to DCC Conversion

I'm pretty sure you can replace the headlight with a surface mount LED. It takes away that campfire look in the cab. Miniatronics Corp sells a pouch of them, model number 12-625-04. Real small LED on a chip with two 6" wires soldered to them. Puts out an awesome white light that looks like the real thing in a dark basement. Easy to install and solder to your decoder leads. Includes resistors but be sure to use the right one. Some are for 3-5 volts the others are for the 8-15 volts that your decoder will be putting out. Ya also need to get the polarity correct for the LED to light up. Pretty easy, just touch the two leads to the white and blue decoder leads with the light function turned on on your throttle. If the LED doesn't light up just reverse the wires.
The surface mount LED can be CA glued to the clear plastic lens of the locomotive. Ya may need to trim away any light tubing that may be on it. Let the glue set up, then route the LED wire along the plastic shell back to the decoder then solder to the correct wires. It might help to goop glue the wires along the shell so ya don't put strain on the LED itself.
