Walther's axle/gear sets no good ??

I found these geared wheel sets a few days ago in my inventory of parts. They were all packaged up neatly in their separate wrappings, then paired together in a small baggie with a label #922 584408-E. I believe I purchased these from Walthers quite some time ago in anticipation of needing them in the future for my Proto engines.


SURPRISE !!......as I unwrapped a few I found they had split gears,.....they never been used!!

I'm waiting for mine, in transit somewhere, I'm told, hope there ok, or their going back to the US of A
 
That’s happened to me as well.
I have some Athearn ones here somewhere and some Proto locos waiting for them.
 
I have never heard or read of problems with the Athearn gears themselves. These appear to be Walther's clones, possibly stock that they received in the Lifelike/P2K acquisition. I have had quality issues with other Walther's products though.
