OK, I just found out that SOO is owned by Canadian Pacific and Grand Trunk (GT) is owned by Canadian National. That gives me 2 more roadnames to run on my layout. Any other US roadnames owned by Canuck railroads?

I've seen a lot of Illinios Central running with CN as well as BNSF running on CP rails. Many other roads as well, that I am not familiar with, are running with both CN and CP.

IC was bought out by CN around 2000-2001?. Most of the IC engines are repainted in CN but I still see a few black white striped IC 6 axels running up and down the old Soo Line Rount in Northern IL.
I have spotted a few switchers still in the white and red Soo colors at the Yard in Franklen Park IL

CN is trying to Buy The EJ&E but is meeting resistence

I think the merger with CN was in 1999. I did, though, about a month ago, see a black IC SD70 with a CN painted engine at the local locomotive service facility. It was odd, to me, to see IC way out here in Texas where we only normally have UP and BNSF (with some KCS and NS run throughs).

Bernie, with all the power swapping between all the major roads you can pretty well run anything that strikes your fancy. Well almost within reason, but then again it's your RR and you can justify running anything you want.
On my new CBCNS RR I'm going to run steam, only one has a Canadian road name "CPR"
and right now I don't remember the road names, but what ever they are they'll be running :D
Cheers
Willis

anyone seen an old ICG diesel lately? I remember seeing the gray orange and white when I was a kid but that was 10+ years ago. I saw an ICG caboose a few years ago down near Markham?

Good point Willis. I think somtimes we try to be too "correct". You've enlightened me to chill out and have fun regardless of the roadnames.:D

Bernie, the CN just took operational control over the Dakota Minnesota & Eastern, and the Iowa, Chicago & Eastern. So you have lots to choose from these days.

Actually, I think the Canadians own or are about to buy everything but the BNSF, UP, NS, and CSX. How did such a little country (population-wise) get so much money? I wonder how much of that will turn out to be fake money? I can't wait for the congessional hearings where the CN and CP come asking for a bailout. :D

CN and CP are multinational firms, much of their stock (especially CN's) is held by Americans and others. So it is "Canadian" in name but not necessarily in fact. The make sure it is identified as CN and not "Canadian National".

CN railroads:
Grand Trunk, Central Vermont, Duluth, Missabe & Iron Range, Illinois Central, Lake Erie & Franklin, Bessemer & Lake Erie, Ontario Northland, British Columbia Railway, Wisconsin Central, Northern Alberta, Duluth Winnipeg & Pacific, and I think there's one more? You sure get some colorful consists these days!
Problem is the majority of these deals came with US stockholders now trying to run the CNR like an American railway. That just doesn't work the same here and the line is falling apart due to lack of maintenance, low moral, and poor motive power distribution.
I can't remember the lines CP has now.

Bob has it right. When the Canadian Govt. sold the CN to the public the shares were mostly bought up by USA interests. The name would have been changed but in the deal was the clause that the name had to remain intact. From then on the RR was to be referred to as CN and not Canadian National. "Sure didn't want to get us natives up in arms now would they :D" Now going private wasn't the best thing because profit superseded safety and the rest (especially in the Rockies) is history.
Now back to Locos you can run and proof you can run most anything.
Below is a Photo I took some time back, at Stellarton NS of a lashup for the main line. Not a loco with CBCNS marking. Then another oddball lashup pic from a different time that I finally found.

Cheers
Willis

Run whatever you want, where ever you want....here's BNSF, CN and TFM lashed together in Houston a while back......BNSF tracks, fwiw.

http://www.railroadforums.com/photos/showphoto.php/photo/5506/ppuser/136

interesting in that it shows a somewhat unique or classic engine from each: an early small-number H2 BNSF, a "Draper-taper" CN, and a Super 7 TFM

a few emails with BNSF determined that this was just a chance set up, nothing planned.

Very cool pic Ken.

This all presents a BIG problem. I thought I could only run CN and CP on my layout to be "correct". Now I see that I can run just about anything. How the he** am I going to convince the wife that I need a lot more roadnames???:eek::D:D:eek::eek:

Anyone got a pic of a CN and SF blue and yellow war bonnet lashed together?

just ask.......

Houston, Tx; Apr 7-2005

now, if I get a note from your wife, I know nothing......

Heck, we'll let just about anyone come to Texas!

Just as long as they can work together.....

Cypress (Houston), Texas; April 28, 2004

Thanks Ken.

Wow, never saw a CP and CN lashed togther before!!

Of course I'm telling my wife that it's all your fault for showing me these pics. Expect that note...:D:D:D

Fake and devalued! It couldn't even have been a dollar for dollar swap in value, but we'd have to pay about 23% more these days, give or take a billion.

The truth is, we just like railroading. Like hobbiests who can't make up their minds, we want 'em all. :D

...and gettin' 'em, too.
