Aurora & Portland Owner
I got the first 3 cars from Mark a while back. There is an Office car, Kitchen car and Dining car. I've started on the Kitchen car first. These are very detailed kits. Here's my progress so far.

They are headed for the paint shop tonight.

Nice models of some pretty unusual MOW cars. Are these usually owned by a private company and get leased out to a railroad or are they railroad owned?

Jim, from the history Mark gives out with each kit, they were owned by ConRail.

Conrail, CSX, NS, CP, CN, and BN are a few RR's that had these cars in work trains. The last RR to use them was NS and they are slowly phasing them out due to Union complaints. CSX used some just for a diner or office depending on the MoW Gang.

Mark, what was the union beef with these cars? No satellite TV or what? Compared to the old outfit cars crews used have, they look pretty nice.

Get in a bunk car with some jerk wod who comes in drunk and wakes you up and keeps you up a real pain in the butt for one ...........when the cealing starts falling on your head as you do your dinner dishes............need more. THis was not always the case being the foreman you had your own car

and if you got parked, lets say in Doyle, calif were the only rail to park is next to the mail line....real close and they come smokin by you in the dead of night at 50mph and all heel breaks lose...........we were never close enough to get a tv station let alone a radio signal......

Here are some pictures of test samples that have been assembled.

I will probably make one more run in the fall time and then thats it, no more, as the kits are very labor intensive and take a lot of time to group all the parts and package everything.

I forgot to mention that these cars are accurate for CR cars. After the CR split you could see them on CSX and NS. Anyone interested can EMail me for more info at MGWSY@aol.com . I will send you pricing info and a copy of the instructions so that you can see what it takes to assemble the kits. These would be in the craftsman kit category as there are a lot of parts to assemble.

Mark, nice kit concept and Jerome, nice execution. Great looking models.

WP-MOW, I feel your pain but it's the job you signed up for. I was a deputy sheriff for 28 years in California and spent plenty of time sleeping in school auditoriums, fire houses, and out in the woods in a sleeping bag. We had large wildfires, floods, mud slides, earthquakes, missing person searches, and riots. I spent my 40th birthday sleeping in the hose bed of fire truck wondering if I was going to die because the fire house was the only place in town still not under water and the river was still rising. I often went days without a shower and getting some MRE's helidropped was considered a treat. I don't want to sound unsympathetic but some jobs just don't involve a lot of comfort.

OK, here's the first one (Office Car) completed. She'll get gloss-coated and then decaled.

I did a few things different than the prototype Mark supplied to match the Aurora & Portland's MOW equipment. I used a darker gray and painted the roofs aluminum instead of white per the prototype. I also darkened in the grills on the A/C units.
