Anyone no what the best under table switch machine is for n scale atlas code 55? I was wondering about the tortise or the atlas any thoughts would be great
Tortoise... In my eye its simply the best under table switch machine.
Tortoise - but be aware. If you are converting from above table to below table the Law-of-Murphy will prevail. Tortoises mount where there are braces/frames! I converted - glad I did - and drilled, sawed, and removed pieces of frame several times. Used a couple remote kits and my own wire linkage.
A couple techniques that I haven't seen written - after drilling down through the centered points, I placed a "flag pole" through the hole to easly see the mounting location. The flag-pole is a 5" piece of wire with a knot in the middle to keep it from falling through. Easily seen from the bottom. Using a Sharpie I mark around the wire so I can find the hole after removing the flag-pole. Even with a good work light and bifocals the 1/16d hole can be hard to find.
The second it to place an old hacksaw blade under the throw arm of the switch before I start drilling up from below the table. Because of that, I haven't had to replace any of the 12 switches, yet.
