I have decided to try my hand at scratch building my own turnouts.
As an ex tool and die maker I think I can handle it.
Question: If I am to use wooden ties, how would I attach the track? is there some kind of magical adhesive?
Any suggestions? perhaps I should try metal ties and solder the track to them? what do I use for metal ties??
Mac
Real wooden ties and real spikes. You can buy them at your local hobby shop, well if you have a hobby shop that carries the stuff to handlay track.
Mac, some people have used PC board for ties and soldered the tracks to it. I'm sure Pliobond would work well but that stuff really smells bad. I can't imagine using it for long in an enclosed space without passing out. I'm an old fashioned guy anyway and I would use spikes and wood ties. It will look better and the spikes can be puled up and the track repositioned for the spots that inevitably end up out of gauge. Pliobond is really too strong - you would end up breaking the track and the ties if you needed to pull up a rail.
