The Turbo is Coming...THE TURBO IS COMING!!

How long have they been saying that now? With all the full page ads they've run, those things must sell for $500 each. $50 for the train, and $450 for all the ads...

That's one of the neatest trains I ever rode though. I had a trip from Providence to New York City in the observation car just behind the engineer. It was like a combination of a dome car ride and a cab ride. Very cool stuff.

The one thing I recall was the small amount of clearance between the dome and the overpasses along the line. Add in the high speeds it ran at, and I actually ducked a few times.

I'll have to pickup one of the GM turbo Trains.... Ive gotten to see the real thing in person before.. thou very far from the condition it was in in its hayday.. still very neat to stand in the presence of such a peice of history

I dont know how many were produced.. but the one pictured above is @ the St Louis Museum of transportation.. was in pretty bad shape when they aquired it.

They have some really rare peices.. for Example..
UP big boy #4006
UP DD-40X #6944
The Worlds Largest Tank car - the Whale - 63,000 gallons 96 Feet long
Burlingtons Silver Charger from 1939
a E-2 supposedly the sole survivor of the 5 'bi polar' electrics built in 1919
The Only surviving Example of a Sellers Cast Iron Turntable ..

If anybody ever gets the chance... well worth the trip.
