Hi,

I have a train set that was purchased about 20 years ago for my son. He has never been into the trains. I've decided to take a look at them see if it is a hobby for me. I have no idea of the scale size, I think its HO, also how can I figure out the part number for this engine? The markings say Baltimore and Ohio 82 and then below that it says OP-2

Thanks for any help
Tina D. :)

Tina,

Welcome to the board. Can you take a picture of it and post it for us here? I'm sure that someone here could identify it if we saw it.

Hi Thanks for the welcome. Here it is
BandO.jpg

I just wanted to see if someone can help me figure out what company made it and what other parts should go with it as it does not have a manufacturer listed on it any where, plus I think I have mixed two train sets together accidentally. Also correction, the numbers on the end of the locomotive are 82 then OP-5

Thanks
Tina D.

Tina,

Well I've looked around. I found 2 exactly like it on ebay, but they don't list the manufacturer either. It doesn't look like an Athearn, Bachman, Life-Like, AHM or any others I could find.

I'm basing this on the 2 mounting tabs on the side of the engine. Gentleman, does anyone recognize this engine???

As far as the scale, it looks like an HO scale engine to me. What exactly parts wise are you looking for?? If it is cars, any brand can go with it.

I'll make a guess that it's a Tyco/Mantua. I can't see enough detail in the picture to really tell but the Tyco F units had a sort of a bug-eyed top headlight and that's what this one looks like. Does the engine run? If not, what happens when you put it on the track? As Jerome said, if the engne works, any kind of HO freight car with the right couplers will mate with it. The couplers it has now are called horn-hooks, or X2F couplers. You see less of these around today and more knuckle type couplers like those made ny Kadee and McHenry. You can change couplers on anything you buy, In the short run, you can make a transition car, with a different coupler type on each end.

Welcome to the forum . If you look on the bottom of your engine in the middle there should be some marking as to the manfacturer !

Thanks for your help all. I did not realize I could just put any parts with it. The last time we used it some years ago or so the engine still ran and it has not been used since then, its been in a box. As for markings on the bottom it only says "Made in Hong Kong". I did find the power box, after much digging through boxes in the garage. The power box says Tyco, so UP2CSX you are probably right.

Thanks
Tina D
