Tracks Through Tucumcari, NM

D&J RailRoad

Professor of HO
I'm on another motorcycle road trip and decided to stop for the night in Tucumcari, NM, right off of I-40.
I saw on my smart phone map there were tracks running along the north side of town, must be the BNSF that runs all the way to Barstow, CA.
Checked into a flea bag motel, went got some dinner then went up to sit trackside to see what might come by. 1 hour, 2 hours, 3. Hmmm, I thought BNSF was a pretty line. I saw there was a train station museum here so I stopped in there. I began to realize it was all about the UP. I checked the rail route map on the wall and saw this was the UP line. The BNSF was way south of here. Dang, no wonder there wasn't any traffic. I came back to my room to watch TV.
Tomorrow I'll get room at Gallup, NM near the tracks so I can watch trains from the pool.

Tucumcari is on the former SP/CRIP "Golden State" route. It is primarily an intermodal route.

The better places to see trains might be up around Dalhart and Stratford where the BNSF crosses the UP.
