Just thought id show off a atlas #6 code 83 LH turnout I repaired. It came with a bunch of track i had purchased a while back. Well someone decided to cut it up for some reason.

Well I couldnt let it go to waste. So i got out some rail joiners, the cutting tool, a file, and of course a soldering iron.

heres the end result, the bottom one in the first pic as you can see is the repaired one. The top is a good one.

that is all nothing super hard or anything like that, ive been meaning to do it for quite some time and was sitting here at the desk & figured it make a decent post LOL.

thanks Mike

Mike, what exactly did you do? It's hard to tell looking at the repaired switch next to a stock switch. Unless it's an optical illusion, the second and third pictures seem to show the through route rail has quite a gap after the frog and it's slightly misaligned with the frog flangeway.

well the area where ya see the gap, it was basicaly cut all the way across. for some unknown reason.

I agree it is kinda hard to tell, the one section that has the gap is only big enough for a piece of paper to slip into. Thats why you can see 4 rail joiners. I need to take care of a few tiny areas with the file but trains go over it nice smooth.

also if its hard to tell the two apart then i did well in my opinion lol.

Nice repair job.
It was likely cut shorter to maximize the number of switches in a shorter distance.
I did that on the old layout for the yard ladder... fit two extra tracks in that way.
