I'm in an area where there are multiple antique shops to choose from and bought much of my railroad stock in those. Some required major work and some were ready to go. Saved many $ doing so also. For 17 years on my daily commute to work I drove past a antiques/collectibles store in the
adjacent town. Finally decided to check it out. Not a large place but it wasn't dusty and
didn't smell musty which is typical of many such establishments. Found the following for $15.

Carton condition is what you would find at your local hobby shop. Decently detailed, easy to construct, metal wheels, and doors
open. Shop owner says he occasionally gets model railroad items. Wonder what I have missed in the past years.
Actually $40 - $50 doesn’t sound so bad after seeing the new Class One Modelworks hi-cube auto racks, as nice as they look they come in somewhere towards $200 Cdn. each!
I had just one pricey freight car and it was a Rapido model that I only used to test track.
If it could make it absolutely anything else would! LOL
The winning move is not to play.Tired of paying 40-$50 for a freight car?
Tired of seeing those prices. The way I avoid it? I just wont buy them!![]()
Does that leave an imprint on the cheek? haha
Maybe four contusions, possibly one large one. There might be a bit of bleeding, but it’s unlikely to be anything permanent.Does that leave an imprint on the cheek? haha
Depends how hard you stampDoes that leave an imprint on the cheek? haha
All you can get from a dead man is whatever cash he has in his pockets. The idea is to send a message, not to close the account, restraint is crucial.Depends how hard you stamp![]()
Like this; All you can get from a dead man is whatever cash he has in his pockets. The idea is to send a message, not to close the account, restraint is crucial.
Exactly!...Or more less, "The winning move is not to pay."The winning move is not to play.
I would be interested in pre-1957 vehicles! When I was building my layout I didn't have a lot of money and usually just bought Athearn cars and weathered them. All my cars have Kadee couplers. I was anal about my Kadees as I used them with magnets hidden because my layout was built mainly for switching. Some cars were undecorated and lettered for my own railroad or done with dry transfers. Couldn't see spending a lot of time and effort super detailing the underside of the cars. I preferred to keep them upright on the tracks. I do have a few newer cars from Kadee and other manufacturers that I haven't gotten around to weathering. Al cars have metal wheels, either Kadee or Intemountain.
I have around 100 plus cars that I would like to liquidate as I have no room for a layout at my current home. I did moder 1957, the transition era. Also have over 200 vehicles to sell. If you are interested or know anyone that might be interested, PM me.

Same here.I pretty much stopped buying freight cars…
A) I don’t “need” them
B) The price on new stock is entering priced out of the market territory for me
Sometimes I will pick up 2nd hand on eBay…but even those days are few and far between now
