Enjoyed following along with your old build and will follow along with the new one as well!
I got some things ordered and am waiting for them to come in the mail. Mostly plaster roll and sheet plaster to help with hills
And next time i go to wally world i need to get some paint. And then i can go from there

I am thinking about a run around for the Hayden track and cut it down to the 1 inch piece that helped to make up the board. I have a 3 inch thick so i could have river on the old layout. Don't need it so i can cut down to the 1 inch foam board and do the run around in the area of the mine and that means i am going to raise for the mine track. that way i can make the mine itself. Have one new plan to so this so thats it for now. More to be relived later

Cleaning and inspecting the track. so much fun... Its what i really needed to do. I need to get the forest off the roadbed and get something like what the track is supposed to look like. I am going to need to buy way more track for this line. That will slow me down some. I have more clean-up to do on the board and i can cut up the line to the mine and cut down the main to Hayden Jct.
While talking with a friend at Fifer Hobby supply hes closing down the store for retirement. He will honor the pre orders and thats about all. He is still finishing the train layout he has. He gave me a couple of places that he knows and i went to the first one called "
Midwest Model Railroad". they have just about everything n scale!! they have Ho and other stuff in there inventory. Its a large store!! I found and ordered a Smelter kit for my layout that fits the bill perfect. Its called "Elkton Creek Smelter". I love it!! its on its way to me as we speak. i have another order coming from Mike so things are coming. Got paint to both touch up the wall and the sand color i will use for the layout itself. Have all kinds of leftover stuff from past layouts. the mine pieces itself, i am having a harder time finding the pieces i need but i found one but the model was out of stock. i am hoping that it comes back soon.
Its always fun trying to find stuff i need for the layout. Laters Smokey

Sorry to see Fifer Hobby shutting its doors. I used them multiple times when I was doing N scale. Mike Fifer was also very active on Nscale.net and YouTube for many years passing on his extensive knowledge.
Iron Planet hobbies is also a great place to deal with, has a huge selection and sometimes has better pricing and lower shipping than Midwest Model Railroad.
I checked out the Iron Planet Hobbies store. Not to bad. I can see things i need so i will make up a order for them
Well, i got the board cleared off and the trestle is gone. I couldn't save it. I got the river tore off and once i get the board vacuumed I will paint the walls around the layout to remove the marks from the mountains and also some over-spray as well. I am going to roll the new color of the layout on the board as soon as i get the board ready. I am painting sand color and i have sand in a bag that i had for several years when i tried this layout before. I can "sand" the board as i roll the paint down. thats the plan...yeah...
its clean as the next few photos show. It looks mean. But its being brought back to bare pink and the river and creek will be a funky yellow. I laid the new hopper track down to see if the measuring was right. With scarm sometimes i still find it was wrong but its real close for the most part. I ordered the rest of the track i need for the layout and its on its way. I got the new smelter kit today. Looks like a lot of fun!! its coming along swell here. I sprayed the spray foam down for the river and one creek to fill level and a couple of days from now i should be able to cut it level with the foam board. Thats about all i have for right now. I will try and paint the wall where it has over-spray and scraping with the foam. the wall will look nice after that. Maybe tomorrow. Shots below,

This shot shows how it looks after i cut the foam to board level. That blade was bought at Harbor freight. Its doing a great job of cutting the yellow foam.

I have the board completely cleared and ready for plaster cloth on the river areas. I am working on getting the town to raise up so i can run track around the back side as a run around. I need a engine house but not sure what to get as i haven't seen any that look like it belongs to the smelter i have. I will keep looking. I also need a shed roof open sides and big enough to let me park a locomotive under it when it isn't needed. I have shots of the layout and where i cut the foam. I need to get a hot wire foam cutter. Gonna have to see where i can get one. I had one but i burnt that one up i guess as it went to the trash. I have a slight change to the layout I have worked it over with scarm and it works pretty good but i will have to fudge a couple of places to make it fit right. Shots below
