Recently I began work on the park for my layout. This is situated on a 2 inch thick square of white bead board that is a lift out area. There's a covered picnic area, plenty of space for traditional picnics on the grass, a playground for the crumb snatchers, a mailbox, antique phone booth and assorted trash cans. There's also a magnificent looking K4 as a centerpiece which will eventually have a fence around it.

Now for the K4.

I took this old beat-up loco and cleaned it up:

And now it looks like this:

Here's a birds-eye view of the scene. The open areas around the section will be covered by strips of cardstock covered with bushes and assorted clump foliage.

Hey Jeffrey,
It's looking real good.

Maybe you can put a little sandlot baseball game going on in that bottom left corner in the last photo.

I see so many of your freight cars getting all dirtied up... it's nice to see an old girl return to her glory days.

The park is looking really good Jeffrey, nice detail work around the swings and marry-go-round. The shrubs and trees that you will add will definitely help to close the deal on the overall feel of the area. I think that Ron is on to something too, a small baseball diamond would be really neat.

Keep the great work coming.

Looks great Jeffery!
We have a few old steamers up here sitting in parks that needs your attenetion, they're both rusting away to nothing.

Nice job Jeffrey ! You need some kids and maybe a kite flyer . In one of our Veteran's Parks here we had a WW2 half track that the kids use to climb on and play around. Well some old lady campained to have it removed because it promoted violence . The best thing is that she caused enough trouble that our city went and removed it . Can you imagne if the real thing came rolling down her street?

Yes, I can. Years ago, my Brother-in-Law was a company commander at the army base near here. He had been looking for a suitable item to put out in front of the unit's headquarters building. He found an old Sherman tank that had been on display at a children's camp some miles from here and had it hauled in. He needed a place to store it temporarily and the driveway of the empty home next door seemed like a good place. That same day, a couple bought the house. Guess what they found blocking their driveway? It didn't help that the main gun was pointing right dead center of their windshield!

That park looks really nice, Jeffrey. I like the way you cleaned up the K-4. Now you need to build some little steps and a platform so the kids (like us) can go up and look in the cab. :)

Jeffrey, I forgot to add to my previous comment what Jim thoughtfully included in his. I think you did a very nice job on the K4s. It now looks the part of a static display unit.

UP2CSX: There won't be any steps. A fence will be going up around it to help keep the vandals out. Someone's already made off with the PRR emblem from the front of the smokebox.

Selector: You weren't thinking that I was going to put some old rusted hulk up there did you? Actually the cleanup was pretty easy. A good washdown with some paint thinner followed by a careful drying. The final step was simply to paint it flat black and add the silver details.

Aww, come on, Jeffrey. Put up a fence with a gate AND a platform for your little people to look in the cab when there's a volunteer attendant. Can't have your little town that overrun by crime. :)

Here's most of the items I picked up yesterday.

Two boxes of green shade trees.

Three packs of figures.

Satin pins and tulle (material used for wedding veils) that will be used in fence construction.

I also picked up a new Bachmann Silver Series flat car.

Great work so far! But I have to be a barer of bad news....Your Parks department is looking for a large law suit! The locomotive needs eithier a chain link fence around it to keep people(little people from cimbing it and falling off!) not a good playground toy! Or put a sign in front of it, "Unsupervised area, climb at your Own risk!" or better yet BOTH! as for room for a Baseball field, you can put in a small T-Ball/Kick ball field if you move things around a bit! a T-Ball field is only 100'x100' .......If you want next week, I can post you a pic of the one in the park I work at along with a Play at you own risk sign! also Put some mulch or white play sand 14' dia. around all the play equipment! I hate to see you get sued by a angry HO scale Parent!
what's the name of your parks department? County parks have tight rules! City park are loose with the rules and staffing!
Bathrooms? didn't see them.......By law you need one!
you need some parks staff working mowing weed eating and policing the site. that help's prevent problem! also if you need equipment photos let me know!

General Dixie Ball field Dimentions
Tball....100'x100' 40'baselines
Jr ball....180'x180' 60' baselines
Major....200'x200' 60' baselines
senior....275'x275 up to 325'x325' 80' baselines
