I had a chance this weekend to get going on the final leg of the Lake Winifred Subdivision, my HO Burlington Northern layout that is loosely set in the mid 80's. A bad choice of eras if your looking for vehicles by the way!
Sorry for quality of the pics, I really have to get a better camera!
Basically this is just visible staging for East bound trains, and a destination for West bound trains. All U.S. bound cars entering or exiting the layout will pass thru here with all Canadian bound cars heading thru Longhurst on the far end of the room. But it will also feature a small MOW yard and a shop where defective cars will be sent (when safe to do so) to the work bench.
It will also be where the snow fighting equipment will be stored as the plan calls for a permanent winter scene on this side of the backdrop. (fingers crossed on that one)
Someone posted earlier about shelf layouts so I thought I'd post this.
The photos show the brackets holding the 3/4" ply ladder style frames with 3/8" ply subroadbed. I wound up using only half the brackets I had planned on using as they are more than sturdy enough for this amount of weight.
Hopefully by next weekend the fascia will be added and the track will be down!

You just gave me a real good idea on how I might add some stgaging to my layout, which has none now. I could run a narrow shelf like yours off the right side of the layout and I'd have about six feet of length to work with. I just need to measure to make sure it's high enough up not to interfere with people shooting pool. The wife likes pool.
