The greenbrier logging and coal co

Ive been doing a bunch of pieces of foam and seeing how i want to go with the track. I think i have a good idea but with all the junk on the layout its hard to see. I have a couple of shots but the disaster is all over. I got to get a trash can and toolbox and clean the mess off. Have a couple of shots below.

Well, Looking at the camp track, i have made a design change to that track. In the spruce town they had the town on one side of the river and mill on the other. I think i am going to try that here. The track just looks too busy there. i can add another piece of track at the base of that ramp. That will move the track over enough that i can place the town over on that side of the river. I am planning to make a pasture over on the other side with the logging camp up in the woods. The camp would be on the left side looking at the layout. I have plenty of scrap pink foam to make risers with. Pink is so easy to work with. That and hot glue for foam. I already changed the plan several times to get it right. Its so easy that what i did before. A lot of others are using it more and more. I'm sold! Will get the the new plan together and see if trains still like it and then i can take some pictures. later, Smoke

I have shots of the rough track. Nothing glued down. Gives me ideas. any thoughts?

No thoughts, too early for me.
I do love the company houses tho, gives a real feeling to the layout!
Hope you’re feeling better!

Thanks fellow, on and off with weather does a number on me anymore. I ran all the engines on the main and the spur up to the logging camp. I see a couple of places where i want to fix but wras so happy with me getting it right on it first try. My engines seem to love the track and plan i have. A couple of power feeds and the turnout wire and one spot i would like to fix and then run trains..lots of trains!

Just when you thought things were working good, I had to tear out part of the ladder yard. All for one turnout. Its actually two on one switch. Fixed but just had to pull up a few turnouts and a power feed. 4 turnouts to get to one. Not a great thing. Today was the first time i hooked up the turnouts to power. Dcc time. Thinking about getting another controller for my dcc system. I hate switching back and forth all the time. Its always a learning thing, this hobby is!

Found one other little issue with turnouts. I have one that is two turnouts that i wired the wrong way.I can do it from the underside i think. Track is about done. I have a couple of wire feed for power and one more turnout to finish and its all finished and can run trains on both lines.
Ok, One new thing i need to ask. I have two RS-2's from Atlas. One runs everywhere slow, fast, real fast. Perfect. The other one sucks. I had one of the BLI's that was having issues with me having to reset the ddc chip. After 3-4 times of taking the engine apart, i got smart and drilled a small hole so i can hit the reset button on the chip. Don't have any issues anymore since i did that, Go figure. Back to the RS-2, What can make a engine studder, stop when it studders it has both headlights flash with the studder. I don't really want to tear it apart if i don't have to. Not sure what i would have to do on it. Could use a bit of help on this one. I'm not the smartest when it comes to these little engines. I did clean the wheels. I have a wheel cleaner and took cleaning fluid to it. That is about as far as my knowledge goes. Guess i will learn from you and i studder along🍀

Things are looking better. I have two different You Tubes. One shows me running two different trains and the other is a new section i finished today. Things are better all the time. Enjoy

Sorry about the bad links to You tube. I think i fixed them. More will be coming. Next after the track is all finished i am going to start the mountains. That should be fun.. Pink Panther would love messing up my plans! Hehe

Dug out all my cars i bought up to about 10 years ago. Some are Atlas, Some MicroTrains and Bachmann. I have a lot more cars than i have room for. I am going to have to build me a shelf for the extra cars. I got room for 5 engines but all those cars just can't be. Shots of one crammed yard. Shots below. On different note, I wish they would make a realistic scale sized metal wheelset, Metal wheels and axles. I know HO has them but i don't know of any that work on N scale.

I had plans to have 5 engines for this layout. One of them was a 44 tonner made by Bachmann. It had dcc built in. Mine had a major meltdown before it made it around the mains to break it in. I sent it to Bachmann for repairs and they had the parts to fix it as that little runner isn't made anymore. I got it back today and it run so good! Its a really good runner slow or fast. Shots of this little engine that can, below

I haven't done much to the layout so i haven't been here. One thing i did was pull up one of the turnouts that was supposed to be a two turnout one power switch that didn't work. After i pulled the turnout up and checking both i found i had crossed the leads and both were running the same direction. Switch leads and problem solved. The other thing i have done is come up with a new power supply for the turnouts. I had two Bachmann power supplys for there little power packs. I was using them to power the turnouts and some lights. First one died. second just went a couple of weeks ago. I had another power transformer but no controller. The a/c was 24 VAC so i wasn't using that. I bought a power supply that works with the the turnouts. Digitrax PS 14 power supply puts out 15 volts of DC power and that works perfect for the turnouts i have,(Kato). Its up and running. So far no issues. Those two are the only things i have done other than working on cars. I have been working on my truck. So i am burned out with that so not much up to working on my hobby. More later, Smokey

Glad you got the power thing figured out Smokey and you’re 44 tonner is back on the track!
I haven’t done much on my layout either, really should update the thread tho.
I noticed you’re not getting a whole lot of replies on this thread but wow, thirty three thousand views? We’re certainly paying attention!

Thats a lot of views! Didn't no that one. I let my old layout kinda drop for a couple of years as i had kinda given up on it and didn't know which way i wanted to go. New start. Works so much better.

Well, not to disapoint anyone but i wanted to do this one different. Don't want to use block foam for under the plaster. I was thinking if i can do a ladder around and use plaster cloth draped over that foam if i can. Shots below.

I know of two different ways of doing this. One is cardboard lattace. The other is newspaper wads. Making up my mind for this. My last layout had block foam all around and it was a pain if you had a derail. That way is not happening again. I cut up strips of 1/4 inch foamboard and glued them to the sides where it will be open so the train can't hit the floor when i go after the cars. I have a few shots of what i am working on so far.

Well, I did a mix of cardboard, foam and tape then plaster. I got three coats on and its drying so that will take a day or so. It don't look to bad. I have one area that looks kinda funny but its right in a place i was thinking of having a small spring to feed the pond by the town. If i change my mind i can cut it out and lay down new plaster. Shots below. Laters

Lookin' good!
I find a coat of goop covers the small mesh marks before grass goes down.
I’m still contemplating doing a small N layout, this might get me going!

Yep Its only second coat there. I got one more for that mountain. The other side i am getting it ready for the track at the logging camp down. I need to get around 3 more rolls of plaster to finish the other mountain. If i need more i can get it. It really looks Bad in Pink!!🤪
