Taking track apart

Hi. I apologize for such a basic question, but what’s the best way to take G-scale track (without ballast) apart? I was given some New Bright track that’s been stored for years, and the tabs seem to break whenever I take any sections apart. I’m an inexperienced HO modeler but don’t have this problem with HO; maybe this track is too old and brittle, or maybe I’m pulling it in the wrong direction. Any suggestions are appreciated!
 
Hi Stx.... welcome to the forum! I'm in Ho also, no experience with G-scale. Click on the "Home" button left end of blue tool bar. Scroll down to scale specific discussions. There's G-Scale in there. Also, Google is your friend!

Thanks! I think I’ve read the entire internet this week, trying without success to find the right technique to use, but I’ll dive deeper into the forum. I appreciate the reply
