old school
Im wireing up the decoder on an old blue box F7, I want to operate the front and rear head lights with the direction that the loco is traveling.

The front head light turns on and off correctly with the "0" button or depending on the direction of travel... the rear light stays on all the time. cant turn it off?

these are LEDs. read is wired to the blue and yellow wires?

anyone have this happen before?

I put CV34 to 32? still no luck?

Trent, you lost me here. An F-7 doesn't have a rear headlight unless you mean the small yard light on the rear of the hood.

I will try to better explain..
I have two F7s coupled back to back. one is a dummy the other powered. I ran the decoders rear head light wires (blue/yellow) to the dummy locos head light.I did this so that when the dummy unit is traveling forward its head light would be on... Now what happens is the dummy loco always has the head light on ("reverse light")and the powered locos light works normal depending on its direction of travel. I cant get the dummy locos light to take commands or turn off when its running in reverse.

hope this helps

Having a powered and dummy unit with the decoder operating from the powered unit but having light functions going to the dummy just doesn't work. I'd call Digitrax and discuss the issue with them. I suspect it's something simple you're overlooking but I don't know what it is.

CV34 should be 2, not 32. Assuming it is wired correctly, there is nothing wrong with having a light in a dummy unit being controlled by the decoder in the powered unit. The first thing I would try is resetting the decoder by programming CV08 to 8(of course remember that that will reset the address to 3), because, if I remember correctly, all current Digitrax decoders default to directional lighting.

I will have to check the value of CV34 again... hope thats all I over looked? I did the CV8 to 08 and had no luck... The dummy units Head light is wired from the decoder in the powered unit( both units are coupled with a draw bar, they have to run with each other) so It should come on when the dummy unit is traveling forward.. just want to make sure I did not over look something with this decoder.

thanks

Did you wire it correctly? Is it a DH120, 121, or 123 decoder? the 120s, 121s, and early 123s all had some defective units in their production runs. The later 123s are fine.

I've had a DH120 that did what you described.
