I've virtually decided that my next (HO) layout will be for the most part a standard 4x8 loop extended to 6x8.
However I plan to have a larger station area than before, but I'm struggling to come up with a good plan for the track.
I'd like to have two lines (East/West) separated by an island platform and perhaps spurs either side (one to service facilities and one to an industry).
Any suggestions on how I can achieve this?
Not sure what you want here. It's no problem to place a station next to one of the mainlines with an island platform between the two adjoining tracks. You can have the spurs come off just before or after the station. You'd probably also want a spur running to the rear of the station as a house/team track. How you do this depends on what the trackage and scenery on the rest of the layout looks like. There are some very simple 4x8 track plans at

Thanks for that Jim! Sorry I guess I was being a bit vauge on the description. That all stems from not having a solid plan laid out, but I might be able to get somewhere with that link.
